Allergy and Immunology – Research and Clinical Trials – New York City – Montefiore Medical Center

The Division of Allergy and Immunology at Montefiore Medical Center is constantly seeking better treatments by participating in clinical trials investigating new allergy drugs and asthma medications. The division also conducts research on conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema), urticaria (hives) and sinusitis.

One trial, involves patients with hives that have flared up two-to-three times a week for more than six weeks and have not responded to regular treatment. Researchers are combining two strategies—environment control and dietary elimination—to treat patients with this condition. This approach is more effective than the standard method of heavily medicating patients and waiting for symptoms to disappear. Another ongoing study investigates whether mercury in the environment may make patients more susceptible to allergies.

In collaboration with investigators at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the division is now recruiting adults and children with asthma for several other clinical trials. Learn more about our clinical trials.
