Dr. Muscarella has extensive experience in advanced open and minimally invasive surgical procedures for the management of pancreatic disorders, such as pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts, and acute and chronic pancreatitis.
He also has a focus on surgical management of benign and malignant conditions of the pancreas, bile ducts, liver and upper gastrointestinal tract, including pancreatic masses, cysts, cancer, obstructive jaundice, periampullary neoplasms, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, and acute and chronic pancreatitis.
Dr. Muscarella has extensive experience in robotic surgery as well.

Peter Muscarella II, MD, graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in microbiology. He went on to receive his medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Muscarella completed his residency training in general surgery at The Ohio State University, where he completed a two-year research fellowship in pancreatic cancer genetics.
Prior to joining Montefiore as Director of Pancreatic Surgery, Dr. Muscarella was an associate professor of surgery with tenure at The Ohio State University. Dr. Muscarella actively participates in multidisciplinary tumor boards and gastrointestinal cancer clinics with other specialists who manage pancreatic diseases. He has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He maintains a busy pancreatic surgery practice and is active in a number of national surgical organizations and committees.
