Specialization in eyelids, orbit, and lacrimal system and treatment of conditions, such as:

  • Eyelid malposition (i.e. entropion, ectropion, retraction)
  • Benign and malignant eyelid tumors
  • Periocular skin lesions and chalazia (styes)
  • Eyelid reconstruction
  • Ptosis (drooping eyelids) and dermatochalasis (excess eyelid skin)
  • Brow ptosis (drooping eyebrows)
  • Facial rejuvenation (Botox, fillers, lasers, aesthetic eyelid and forehead surgery)
  • Puffy eyelids
  • Radiofrequency skin treatments (Pelleve)
  • Orbital (eye socket) tumors and inflammatory syndromes
  • Thyroid (Graves') Eye Disease
  • Eyelid, orbital and lacrimal system trauma
  • Tearing secondary to nasolacrimal duct obstruction, punctal or canalicular stenosis, and eyelid malposition

Research Focus

Biography

Dr. Barmettler is a board-certified ophthalmologist, who specializes in oculoplastic surgery - a specialty which requires two years of additional training after general ophthalmology residency. This training focuses on plastic and reconstructive surgery of the upper face, eyelids, orbit, and lacrimal system. During this training, accredited by the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), Dr. Barmettler worked with renowned surgeons, Frank Nesi, Geoffrey Gladstone, and Evan Black.

Dr. Barmettler attended Bowdoin College, where she was a Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholar for academic excellence and won the Freeman Scholarship for her studies in Chinese language and culture. After graduation, she dedicated a year to breast cancer research at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Charlestown. She went on to receive her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she was named a Liss Scholar for academic merit and was awarded the Forderer Fellowship for her health care work in Ecuador. After medical school, Dr Barmettler completed a transitional year internship at Temple University, Crozer Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvannia and went on to accomplish her ophthalmology residency training at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College. During her final year, she was served as Chief Resident. She then completed her final two years of training with the highly competitive American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
