- Research Focus
Dr. Underland's research focus during her fellowship training was in diabetes and hypoglycemia. Her primary research project looked at postprandial blood sugars with Sitagliptin in an insulin-only closed loop (artificial pancreas) setting. She has also been involved in some of the diabetes medication trials at Montefiore. In addition, she presently has a quality improvement project which looks at non-diabetic hypoglycemia at CHAM. She plans on continuing artificial pancreas research as well as researching diabetic complications in pediatric patients.
Dr. Underland was born in Texas, and went to college at Houston Baptist University. She subsequently obtained her medical degree at UNTHSC-TCOM. She did residency in Pediatrics at Scott and White and completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Montefiore in 2016. In order to continue to care for patients in the Bronx, NY and diabetes research she took a faculty position at Montefiore in the division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes.
