Education & Training

Montefiore Medical Center offers several allied and other health professional training programs for clinical health care professions that are distinct from dentistry, nursing and medicine. Because some of these professions are more specialized in nature, they must adhere to national training and education standards, as well as they professional scope of practice. Some of the programs offered at Montefiore include:

Physician Assistant Program

The Attending Service Medicine Department at Montefiore Medical Center is the oldest and largest physician assistant (PA)-driven/managed medical service in the country that cares for an average of 170 medicine and cardiac inpatients on a daily basis.  Our team of more than 80 PAs is well trained, receiving initially eight weeks of intense classroom and preceptorship orientation followed by ongoing development through education and clinical supervision. Pharmacy Residency Program

The PGY-1 Residency Program in Pharmacy is an accredited program of the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists. It was established in 1968 as the first pharmacy residency in New York City. The program consists of a one month general orientation, followed by 11 months of learning experiences in acute care (e.g., infectious disease, critical care, cardiology and immunization), practice management, ambulatory care and elective learning experiences in such areas as pediatrics, oncology, solid organ transplantation and geriatrics. Five residents are accepted into the program annually. Learn more about the Pharmacy Residency Program.
