Only a 30 minute subway ride from Midtown Manhattan, the Psychology Internship Training Program is perfect for intern candidates who are interested in experiencing life in New York City while working in a bustling academic medical center in what the U.S. Census considers to be one of the most diverse areas in the country!
Our location in the Bronx makes us an excellent match for interns who are interested in building their competence in the assessment, treatment, and research of the full range of psychiatric disorders, while also addressing issues of culture, diversity and social justice in a largely underprivileged and underserved patient population. This includes: (a) applying evidence-based treatments cross-culturally, (b) tailoring evidence-based treatments for patients with comorbid medical conditions and/or multiple psychosocial and environmental stressors (either of which may impact the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of their mental health disorders), (c) implementing evidence-based behavioral health treatments for chronic medical diseases (e.g., CBT for smoking cessation, weight management, hypertension, etc.), and (d) participating in (or designing) a research project and/or other scholarly activities with our clinical population that is of sufficient quality and rigor to have the potential to contribute to the scientific, psychological, or professional knowledge base via a professional publication or presentation at the local, regional, or national level.

Please note that this internship is only available to students enrolled in doctoral programs in Health Service Psychology and/or Professional Psychology, in the areas of (a) clinical, (b) counseling, (c) school, (d) other developed practice areas, or (e) combinations of two or three of the above areas, consistent with the standards of an Eligible Accrediting Organization (one that accredits doctoral programs in Health Service Psychology and/or Professional Psychology and is either recognized by an Approved Government Agency or the Canadian Psychological Association). An Approved Government Agency is a United States governmental department, agency, or body that (a) formally reviews and/or recognizes doctoral psychology accrediting organizations or (b) has explicitly recognized a doctoral psychology accrediting organization in its hiring qualifications; and (c) has been approved by the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). Approved Government Agencies currently include the United States Department of Education and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. Respecialization programs in Professional Psychology for which internship is an essential and required component of the doctoral training are also eligible.
