Pediatric anesthesiology is a unique and growing subspecialty dedicated to the safety and quality of anesthetic care in children. Our team of pediatric anesthesiologists is committed to ensuring superior pre-, peri- and postoperative anesthesia care among children of all ages, from neonates to adolescents. Montefiore's pediatric anesthesia program is led by renowned physicians who collaborate with faculty and staff across the organization, including The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM).
Established in 2001, CHAM has been consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the leading hospitals in children's care, and in 2011 was ranked in all 10 specialties. Our physicians are pioneers in their fields, redefining healthcare, particularly the management and treatment of complex and chronic conditions. Pediatric anesthesiologists are fully integrated into this framework, working with multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes. The anesthesia team is tasked with taking care of the child before, during and after surgical procedures, constantly monitoring the child's vital functions and modifying anesthetics to ensure maximum safety and comfort.
Montefiore strives to maintain the highest standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care, and patient safety is a primary concern. Pediatric anesthesiologists are trained in issues specific to children, and recognize that children are not "small adults." They understand that disease processes, physical development and medication metabolism vary among children.
Faculty are engaged in a variety of clinical research projects. Areas of investigation include post-anesthesia pain management, pediatric regional anesthesia and thrombo-elastography in the morbidly obese child.
As the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia continues to grow, we will continue to develop and apply the most current and effective anesthetics for patients.
