Hidradenitis Suppurativa

The Hidradenitis Suppurativa Program at Montefiore provides comprehensive healthcare for patients living with what many consider a hidden and poorly understood disease. While it is difficult to pinpoint the cause, this condition is thought to be a primary disease of the hair follicles and specialized sweat glands. Hidradenitis suppurativa affects more women than men, and about one-third of patients have an affected relative. It is thought that a genetic mutation may also contribute to severe disease in some families.
