While it is difficult to pinpoint the cause, this condition is thought to be a primary disease of the hair follicles and specialized sweat glands. Hidradenitis suppurativa affects more women than men, and about one-third of patients have an affected relative. The Hidradenitis Suppurativa Program provides services at Montefiore’s new state-of-the-art Hutchinson Campus on alternate Mondays. We also offer a monthly drop-in patient support group to give patients a chance to connect with others suffering from this disease.
To help us get to know your individual needs, please come prepared to provide detailed information on treatments received to date. You will be seen by a nurse and then a dermatologist who will review your history, examine your skin and discuss treatment options. We will also let you know about possible clinical trials.
