This edition spotlights alumn Dr. Karen Pechman (class of 1986), Medical Director at Burhe Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY. She shares memories from her time at Albert Einstein and excitement about a new affiliation with Montefiore.
I am very honored to be featured in this newsletter's Alumni Corner. I trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Einstein from 1983 - 1986. My fondest memories are of our Program Director Dr. Ed Delagi and faculty Dr. Hal March and Dr. Heinz Lipman. They were the most wonderful teachers, mentors and friends. I have fond memories of Dr. Delagi's amazing administrative assistant Gloria Kenny, who took care of all of us every day.
Since 1989, I have been the Medical Director of PM&R at the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. For me, Burke's recent affiliation with Montefiore and Einstein is like coming home again! It has been fantastic to be reunited with so many friends from the past and to meet so many wonderful new colleagues. In addition to being the Medical Director of PM&R here at Burke, I am now also the Designated Institutional Officer or "DIO", and as such I am very pleased and proud that we have had our Institutional application approved last month by the ACGME and have submitted our application for a new PM&R residency program here at Burke.
