Center for a Healthy Childhood

Center for a Healthy ChildhoodMontefiore and the Lopez Family Foundation have joined forces to establish the Center for a Healthy Childhood. The Center promotes healthy living through community health programming, positive messages meant to bolster children's self-image, and a healthy environment.

This new center builds upon Montefiore's robust community health offerings and Bronx native Jennifer Lopez's long-standing commitment to improving the health and well-being of women and children.

The Center for a Healthy Childhood will serve Montefiore patients and their families, as well as the tens of thousands of children and families in the Bronx and beyond reached through partnerships with the New York City Department of Education, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and other health and social service providers.  The Center brings together programs such as:

Healthy Steps

The Healthy Steps program focuses on mothers and their children from birth through age 5, working to improve their outcomes for physical and mental health through preventive screening, assessments, counseling and interventions.

Bronx Collective Action to Transform Community Health (CATCH)

The Bronx CATCH program is dedicated to improving health, nutrition and opportunities for physical activity on a neighborhood level in the communities around six Montefiore Medical Group primary care sites throughout the Bronx.

Montefiore School Health Program

Montefiore's partnership with the New York City Department of Education is the nation's largest school-based health program. This comprehensive program offers medical, mental health, dental and community health services to 30,000 students on 22 school campuses in the Bronx through school-based clinics.

Bronx Nutrition and Fitness Initiative for Teens (B'N Fit)

B'N Fit is dedicated to helping adolescents with obesity. The program provides a safe environment for teens in need of comprehensive services to control and reduce obesity while addressing their complex emotional issues. B'N Fit aims to help participants maintain or lose weight during the nine-month program cycle, which reduces body mass index (BMI) as the teens continue to grow in height.
