New Center is Largest of its Kind in the Bronx and Westchester
New York City, NY (June 27, 2011) - The Center for Orthopaedic Specialties at Montefiore Medical Center has established a new, state-of-the art 29,000 square-foot facility at the Hutchinson Metro Center, almost tripling the size of its current Bronx facility. Patients treated at this center will have access to 20 orthopaedic surgeons, four podiatrists, a rheumatologist and two nurse practitioners. With the ability to accommodate up 80,000 annual patient visits, the facility is the largest full-service orthopaedics center in the Bronx and Westchester and one of the largest in the New York metropolitan area.

"Its larger size and comfortable patient waiting areas are complemented by 27 exam rooms with the most advanced digital diagnostic technology available today."
Patients are treated for both standard and highly complex conditions such as: joint replacements, arthritis, pediatric orthopaedic surgery, musculoskeletal tumors and infections, hand, foot or ankle surgery, scoliosis, spinal surgery and sports injuries.
The new facility features the most advanced computer-guided surgical planning technologies, as well as digital x-ray units that provide the highest resolution musculoskeletal images with the lowest amount of radiation for patients. A new diagnostic imaging procedure for scoliosis patients digitally stitches together images of the spine and uses about one-half the radiation of traditional x-rays. For pain management procedures, an image intensifier enhances x-ray images necessary for epidural steroid joint injections and nerve blocks.
Exam rooms are tailored to specific types of treatment, such as the hand suite, which is equipped with ergonometrically shaped tables to treat patients with diseases of the hand. A holistic treatment room, with large massage chairs, relaxing music, aromatherapy and floor to ceiling windows, is the setting for rheumatoid arthritis injections.
The center is also a high-tech laboratory for surgical residents who can simulate orthopaedic procedures and practice on models while observed by teaching faculty members either in the lab or remotely.
The new facility, just a short distance off campus from the Weiler Division of Montefiore Medical Center, has daytime, evening and weekend office hours. Patients have easy access to their electronic medical records.
Physicians, surgeons and staff from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center have been providing comprehensive care and management for all orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions for more than 50 years. The pediatric orthopaedic program at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore was recently ranked #22 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
