Dr. Beth McLellan, director, Supportive Oncodermatology, Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care, and assistant professor, Einstein, and Roya Nazarian, oncodermatology research fellow, Einstein, share their research on radiation dermatitis, a common side effect of radiation treatment that can cause itching, burning and pain to open or bleeding ulcers. Our research, which was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, used a tool to measure how this condition impacted our patients’ quality of life. We’re also investigating the use of an antibiotic ointment and body wash to prevent the development of radiation dermatitis in the first place.
