Physicians from Various Specialties Selected for Outstanding Performance

New York (November 25, 2013) – Montefiore Medical Center physicians from various specialties and sub-specialties have been named to the 2013 Super Doctors Rising Stars list published in this week’s New York Times Magazine. The 65 physicians were selected for their professional achievements and are considered to be among the best in their specialties in New York. Only 2.5 percent of New York’s active physicians are selected for the list.

“We believe our physicians, including those working at our new hospitals in Westchester, are exceptional and we are proud so many have been recognized for their outstanding performance,” said Andrew D. Racine, M.D., Ph.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer at Montefiore. “As an academic medical center, we are committed to providing patient-centered, research-driven care and this recognition is a testament to our medical staff members who consistently strive for excellence and dedicate themselves to improving the health and wellness of our patients.”

Physicians considered for the Rising Stars list are required to have been fully-licensed to practice for 10 years or less and were nominated by colleagues who believe they are exceptional in their specified field. The rigorous, multi-phase selection process includes a survey of doctors, independent evaluation of candidates by the research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area and a good-standing and disciplinary check. The nominees are evaluated on 10 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, including professional activities, leadership positions, board certifications and other achievements.

The Rising Stars list has been published since 2005. It is a selective listing of outstanding doctors across various specialties and serves as a resource for patients looking for top physicians.
