Biography

Joann Kwah, MD, is Associate Program Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Medicine at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her clinical focus is on general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease and colorectal cancer screening.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998, Dr. Kwah attended Drexel University College of Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Medicine in 2006. For her postdoctoral training, Dr. Kwah attended Boston Medical Center, completing a residency in Internal Medicine in 2010 and taking on the role of Chief Resident in her final year. Following this, Dr. Kwah completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology in 2013.

Building on her clinical expertise, Dr. Kwah’s research focuses on gastroenterology with particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease and vascular disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. She has contributed to work published in several journals, has written book chapters and reviews and has presented her work regionally.

Dr. Kwah is a fellow in the American College of Gastroenterology as well as a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.
