At Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care we afford our patients the most advanced systems of radiation treatment available today. Intensity modulated radiation therapy, also known as IMRT, is one such treatment. Hundreds of tiny radiation micro-beams of different intensities are carefully calculated and precisely sculpted in order to deliver highly focused radiation directly into the tumor.
The preciseness of this technique allows for the delivery of maximum dosages while sparing the healthy surrounding tissue. This is an “organ sparing” treatment which minimizes the amount of radiation to normal tissues surrounding the area being treated. IMRT allows us to combat tumors more specifically and intelligently than ever before. The effect is far less traumatic to our patients, with minimal damage to the body's healthy tissue.
