Minimally Invasive Surgery

Formally in existence at Montefiore Medical Center for about 10 years, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery techniques actually date back about 30 years when pediatric surgeons performed such procedures at Montefiore. Some of the laparoscopic procedures performed by the Department include: cholecystectomy, bile duct procedure, colon resection, liver tumor removal and liver cyst excision, splenectomy and vascular procedures.

Montefiore has been in the vanguard for educating surgical trainees in minimally invasive surgery for about a decade. This rich history in the field led to the Department of Surgery's launch of a major initiative in 1998: The Montefiore Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIMIS) which includes:
