Jyotsana Thakkar, MD, is an Attending Physician at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nephrology at our Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She joined the Montefiore team in 2018, with a clinical focus on onconephrology, chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, and glomerular diseases. She cares for patients with acute and chronic kidney disorders, including initiation and maintenance of dialysis in outpatient, inpatient, and intensive care settings.
In 2007, she received her Doctor of Medicine in 2011 from M. P. Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. Once completing her studies, she moved to New York to complete her postgraduate training. In 2014, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Nephrology at Northwell Health, Hofstra School of Medicine, which was completed in 2016.
Extending from her clinical focus, Dr. Thakkar’s research also focuses on onconephrology and renal disease. Her work includes a research project on renal failure in pre-eclampsia patients. She then completed a project on onconephrology abstracts trends. Her work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed original articles and abstracts, and has presented nationally.
Dr. Thakkar has worked as a volunteer on many research projects and on the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) in 2012.
She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology and is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology, among others.
