Behavioral Health Integration Program (BHIP)
At Montefiore, we have made mental health care an integral part of our services at Montefiore Medical Group, our primary care service locations, through our Behavioral Health Integration Program (BHIP). In order for our patients to enjoy optimum physical health, they can benefit from good emotional health.
To help us better understand our patients’ needs, we offer a full medical evaluation including a mental health evaluation. At all of our primary care locations, physicians and specialists work hand in hand with a team of behavioral health practitioners.
Through BHIP, we offer a full range of mental health services, including:
- Individual one-to-one counseling
- Group therapy
- Smoking cessation
- Managing substance misuse
- Support and care for depression and / or anxiety
Our team of highly-trained specialists includes:
- Social workers
- Psychologists
- Psychiatrists
Healthy Steps
The Healthy Steps program provides support to new parents who have questions or concerns about a variety of topics, including crying, sleep patterns, toilet training and discipline to name a few.
Parents also have access to regular well-baby check-ups (beginning at birth through 5 years) by a Montefiore Medical Group pediatrician and a Healthy Steps specialist, trained in child development and behavior and referrals to specialists, such as hearing and speech pathologists, as needed.
Parent discussion groups and a hotline are also available, as well as on-site treatment for parental mental well-being issues, including depression and anxiety.
Supporting New Moms and Their Babies During COVID-19
In recognition of their patients’ hardships, doctors from Montefiore Health System sprung into action and received emergency grant funds to purchase essential items such as diapers, wipes, formula, thermometers and breast pumps for new mom and baby care packages. The team also put these needs on their Amazon Wish List and received close to $30,000 worth of essential items. Watch the video below, as staff from CHAM and Montefiore Medical Group gave their time to put together more than 200 care packages to date.

Pediatric and adult behavioral health services are available at all Montefiore Medical Group locations and same day appointments are available.
Patients have the option to meet with a behavioral health provider in private during scheduled primary care appointments. All BHIP services are confidential.
