THE JOINT COMMISSION NAMES MONTEFIORE MOSES CAMPUS AN ADVANCED COMPREHENSIVE STROKE CENTER

Montefiore Moses Campus has earned The Joint Commission's top designation for stroke management, Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, becoming the only hospital to achieve this distinction in the Bronx and Westchester. More than 6,000 hospitals nationwide are accredited by The Joint Commission for general medical and surgical care, of which only about 174 have earned this new prestigious certification. "Our commitment to excellence reflects Montefiore's holistic approach to manage the overall health of the population it serves and provide the most advanced care, while managing healthcare costs," says Emad Eskandar, MD, MBA, Jeffrey P. Bergstein Professor and Chairman, Neurological Surgery, Montefiore and Einstein.

"MONTEFIORE'S ADVANCED COMPREHENSIVE STROKE CENTER ALLOWS US TO SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCE OUR CUTTING-EDGE AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY STROKE CARE." — Mark Mehler, MD, Professor and Chair, The Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology, Montefiore and Einstein

Tracking the highest volume of stroke patients in New York City, Montefiore treats some 1,500 patients each year. Stroke treatment has evolved, and access to sophisticated and rapid diagnostic and therapeutic treatments dramatically reduces the chance of disability. Peter Semczuk, DDS, MPH, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Moses and Wakefield Campuses, credits the work of the multidisciplinary team consisting of the chairs from the departments of Rehabilitation, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology, along with 25 additional staff across a wide range of departments. "The Joint Commission is the gold standard by which hospitals measure themselves, and we met hundreds of these extremely difficult standards, thanks to an incredible collaboration," says Dr. Semczuk.

MONTEFIORE MOBILIZES TO TAKE ON THE FLU

Flu season is coming, and Montefiore is mobilizing to protect patients, families and associates. Each year the MY SHOT COUNTS campaign focuses awareness on the importance of getting the flu shot, and 2018 is no exception. For every Montefiore associate, the choice to protect yourself and others from the flu is the centerpiece of this effort.

MONTEFIORE MOBILIZES TO TAKE ON THE FLU

You lead by example when you get your shot—and it's easy! Vaccination carts visit each unit during all shifts, with full schedules posted on the intranet Flu HQ page. Once vaccinated, you receive a blue MY SHOT COUNTS tag for your Montefiore ID badge. When flu is officially declared prevalent by the New York State Commissioner of Health, all associates who have not been vaccinated will be required to wear a mask in all areas across the health system where contact with patients may occur. For those few individuals with allergies to components of the regular vaccine, an alternative is available through Occupational Health Services.

Head to the intranet Flu HQ page for vaccination schedules and more information.
