July 18-26 is International Sarcoma Awareness Week
Join the patients and staff from the Pediatric Sarcoma Program at The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) as they "Stomp out Sarcoma" on Saturday, July 18, 2009 and raise funds for sarcoma research.
CHAM's Stomp Out Sarcoma Walk is one of many events sponsored all over the nation by the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for people dealing with sarcoma, a cancer of the connective tissues, such as nerves, bones and muscles. Sarcoma can arise anywhere in the body and is frequently hidden deep in the limbs. Sarcomas account for 15-20 percent of childhood cancer diagnoses and about 1 percent of adult cancer diagnoses, and many sarcomas resist current treatments.
CHAM's Stomp out Sarcoma Walk will take place at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, at the 240th Street entrance at Broadway, near the Fox Statue. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Participants and supporters are asked to bring a folding chair/blanket. In the event of rain, the walk will be held at CHAM, 3415 Bainbridge Avenue, Bronx, NY.
To RSVP for the walk or to make a donation, contact May Thompson at (718) 741-2342.
