The ADVANCE for Nurses Readers' Choice Survey Reveals What Nurses Think Makes Their Hospitals Shine
In the first ADVANCE for Nurses Readers' Choice Best Hospital survey, hundreds of nurses ranked Montefiore Number 2 out of 290 hospitals in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. In fact, only eight other hospitals were included in the Honor Roll by ADVANCE. We scored high in all categories, Communication, Organizational Culture, Professional Development, Quality of Care and Retention Efforts.
Response to the survey was immediate and heart-felt, with nurses affirming their hospitals
Montefiore was recognized for being committed to retaining its nurses, whether in a continuing role or in a different position within the facility. Sheila Yates, MSN, RN, associate director in outpatient services, described her 18-year career at Montefiore as "fulfilling."
"I've been in four to five different positions, all going up the ladder," she explained. "There's a lot of room for growth at Montefiore and encouragement for those who want to further their careers."
One powerful message came through loud and clear from the participants in the Readers' Choice selection process: Nurses appreciate hospitals that manage to juggle all of these important qualities on a day-to-day basis and maintain them over time.
"All of these things - good communication, a great organizational culture, the support that helps me grow professionally and the chance to try out new roles at the hospital - are what has kept me at Montefiore for 18 years, " Yates said. "I am proud to work at an institution that has long been dedicated to quality care for the community we serve."
