Children’s Hospital at Montefiore – CHAM
Montefiore’s state-of-the-art children’s hospital is part of the West Campus, located next door to the Moses Division Hospital and across the street from the Greene Medical Arts Pavilion. For insights on the evolution of pediatric care at Montefiore, meet Marianne O’Hara, a dedicated Nurse Practitioner and former pediatric nurse at Weiler Hospital.
“Most hospitals have a pediatric floor or wing, but to have an entire facility where every need of a child can be met is really extraordinary,” explains Marianne.
“Everything at CHAM is geared to the child, from the space-exploration theme of the hospital, which kids love, to the specialty areas and specialists. And because everyone on staff is trained in pediatrics, they all know how relate to kids. That makes a big difference. When I call in a doctor, I know that person knows how to talk to young patients and make them comfortable.
“I see a huge difference in how children feel about being in the hospital here. Every inch of CHAM is so child-friendly, kids are not frightened at all. I have patients I call my ‘frequent fliers,’ with chronic kidney and bladder problems, who have to be admitted quite often. It doesn’t faze them—as long as they have their Internet connection!

“The medical technology is extraordinary, part of the integrated technology found throughout Montefiore. My office is in the Medical Arts Pavilion. On days when I have a full waiting room, I know it will be a while before I can get to the hospital to see my kids there. No problem. I check on them via computer from my office. I find out how they’re doing by reading their lastest vital signs. I find out when they were given their medicines or if they’ve had a test I ordered. I can even find out if they are waiting in Radiology right then. The technology is phenomenal and it allows for more efficient and better care.
