Free Oral Cancer Screenings at Montefiore Medical Center

Tobacco Use and Alcohol Consumption Two Leading Risk Factors for the Disease

According to the American Cancer Society, in 2007 there were nearly 35,000 new cases of oral cancer diagnosed in the U.S. Oral cancer affects twice as many men as women, and major risk factors for the disease include smoking/tobacco use and frequent alcohol consumption. When it is detected early, treatment and survival rates improve.

Montefiore Medical Center will offer free oral cancer screenings that include a brief and painless exam by a dentist, information about oral cancer prevention and referrals as needed.

Screenings are open to the public and will be held on two days at two locations:

Monday, April 21, 2008 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Montefiore-Einstein Cancer Center
1695 Eastchester Road, 1st Floor, Bronx, NY

Friday, April 25, 2008 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Montefiore Medical Center's Moses campus
Ambulatory Oncology Department/Gold Zone, 1st Floor
111 E. 210th Street, Bronx, NY

No appointments are necessary.

For more information, call 1-800-MD-MONTE (1-800-636-6683).

Screenings are sponsored by Montefiore's Department of Dentistry in partnership with the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Medical and Radiation Oncology.
