Diseases and Conditions
The Department of Urology at Montefiore Medical Center consists of seven full time faculty members. We specialize in the complete range of urological issues such as cancers, erectile dysfunction, male infertility, Pyronie’s disease, as well as female and pediatric urology.
We offer treatment for all forms of urologic cancers including prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, urethral and penile malignancies. It should be noted that prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in America and the second leading cause of death among men who die from cancers.
Urological Cancers (Oncology)
The division of Urologic Oncology is dedicated to providing the most progressive cancer treatment, encompassing all tumors of the genitourinary tract. Our nationally and internationally recognized experts treat the entire array of prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, urethral and penile malignancies.
Our experts utilize the most updated techniques in open, endoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for the treatment of all urologic cancers. The division of Urologic oncology functions as part of the Montefiore/Einstein center for cancer care where all Urologic malignancies are diagnosed and patients are advised and treated in a multidisciplinary fashion.
Other Male Urological Conditions
Erectile dysfunction, or impotence, is the inability to achieve an erection during sexual intercourse. Approximately 25 to 30 million men in the United States are affected by erectile dysfunction. At Montefiore we offer the full spectrum of therapies, including treatment for Peyronie’s disease.
The male infertility services offered at the Department of Urology encompass the genetics of male infertility, the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility, microsurgery and complex vasectomy reconstructions, sperm retrieval techniques and microsurgical varicocelectomies.
Benign prostate hyperplasia is a condition where the prostate gland becomes enlarged and may cause problems associated with urination. We offer the full spectrum of diseases including Green light laser, microwave therapy or traditional transurethral prostatectomy
Urologic stone disease is the recurrent formation of stones in the urinary tract that can cause significant pain and discomfort and serious damage if the stone does not pass through the urine or removed through surgery. Experts in our department are adept at removing the most complex stones in the most minimally invasive fashion.
Female and Pediatric Urological Conditions
Though not as common, our physicians also specialize in disorders for women including bladder pain syndromes, difficulty urinating, frequent urination, hematuria, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections and urologic cancers.
Our pediatric urology program covers antenatal counseling for detected anomalies of the urinary and genital tract, investigation and treatment of infections, investigation and surgical treatments of pediatric tumors involving the urinary and genital tract, and prevention, investigation and treatment of renal failure (in conjunction with Pediatric Nephrology).
