Tumor Boards

As part of its Tumor Boards, Montefiore Medical Center’s cancer specialists form an expert panel to define optimal treatment plans. They review and discuss the medical condition and treatment options of our cancer patients. Tumor Boards are made up of professionals from medical oncology, surgical oncology and radiation oncology, as well as nurse navigators and clinical trial study coordinators. This multidisciplinary approach insures that each patient’s case is thoroughly reviewed and considered by a team of experts.

Tumor Boards at Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care serve as the most comprehensive approach to determining the best treatment for our patients. They are also an excellent way of identifying patients who are candidates for clinical trial and study. Members gather and review in detail presentations of a patient’s case and history.

The overall goal is to present each and every patient to the Tumor Board and an attempt is made to discuss each patient’s treatment options. The approach is evidence based and best-outcomes driven, and all participating members offer recommendations for a plan of care.

Boards at Montefiore are now more focused than ever. Our experts run their own Tumor Boards, trying to identify successful treatments within their own specialty. Each disease specialty site has its own Tumor Board. Since some cases are more complicated than others, Tumor Boards have increasingly become more focused and disease specific.
