Community Relations - Montefiore Medical Center - Bronx, New York City

Beautiful murals were recently installed in the waiting areas of five Montefiore health centers, enhancing these spaces for thousands of patients and community members.

The artwork was created by five groups of junior- and high-school aged youth who participated in a five-week project called “Visions of a Healthy Community.” It was run by the Montefiore Office of Community Health and Wellness’ Healing Arts Program, in collaboration with the Groundswell Community Mural Project and five afterschool programs in the Bronx.

“This project uses art as a tool to empower youth in our community to explore and communicate about important health issues in the Bronx,” says Ronit Fallek, Director of the Healing Arts Program. “These murals allow us to see a vision of community health through their eyes, while offering them the pride of sharing their visions and creations in a visible, positive and lasting way.”
