Carolyn Bauer, MD
Dr. Carolyn Bauer is the Director of the Montefiore Kidney Care Program and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is board certified in both Nephrology and Internal Medicine. She received her bachelor of arts with highest honors from Oberlin College and her medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her residency at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and subsequently served as a chief resident at NYU-Downtown Hospital. Dr. Bauer completed her fellowship training in Nephrology and Hypertension at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore where she studied the effect of prostaglandin transport on the developing kidney. Her current research interests include the management of chronic kidney disease.
Dina M. Began, MD
Dr. Dina Began, an Assistant Professor and board-certified dermatologist, completed her dermatology residency at Indiana University Medical Center, where she was named Chief Dermatology Resident. After a fellowship at New York University School of Medicine (NYU), she served on the dermatology faculties of NYU, the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and the medical staff of St. Vincent's Medical Center. She has contributed to various publications on subjects ranging from blistering disorders to gout, calcinosis cutis (calcium deposit skin disorder) and amyloidosis.

Anna Broder, MD
Dr. Anna Broder is a board-certified rheumatologist who comes to Montefiore from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey. She completed both her residency in internal medicine and her clinical research fellowship at Einstein-Montefiore Rheumatology Division of Rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. Her research interests include clinical and translational research in systemic lupus, antiphospholipid syndrome and other rheumatologic diseases. She is especially interested in the relationship between antiphospholipid antibodies and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Broder is the principal investigator for the Consortium of Rheumatology Researchers of North America, Inc. (CORRONA) registry that collects information about patients with rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis. In addition to her research interests, Dr. Broder works with patients who have rheumatologic diseases, including lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome as well as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and vasculitis. Dr. Broder is fluent in Russian and English. She offers community educational presentations for the Arthritis Foundation and was awarded the Arthritis Foundation, New York Chapter, Fellowship in Inflammatory Arthritis.

Maria Cirino is Director of the Interventional Pulmonology Service at Montefiore since September 2008, earned her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine in San Juan and completed her Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Medical Specialties in Pulmonary Medicine and is board-eligible in Critical Care Medicine.

Eric Epstein, MD
Dr. Eric Epstein received his bachelor of science in nutrition at Cornell University and received his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center. During his residency, he studied glucose metabolism at Rockefeller University and was also the Assistant Chief Resident at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He completed his fellowship training in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore where he studied the effects of bariatric surgery on weight loss and diabetes. Dr. Epstein is currently active in clinical research and serves as a contributing editor for The Medical Letter.

Dr. Pamela Jakubowicz is Assistant Clinical Professor and board-certified dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology. She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical School where she graduated summa cum laude. She completed her dermatology residency at the New York Medical College, where she was Chief Resident. Dr. Jakubowicz is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Psoriasis Foundation, the National Rosacea Society, and the International Hyperhidrosis Society. In addition, she has been published in numerous journals and has given presentations to The New York Academy of Medicine and The American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Jakubowicz specializes in skin disorders and performs cosmetic dermatology procedures, including laser therapy, sclerotherapy, chemical peels, Botox®, Restylane® and Juvederm® treatments. She also treats hair and nail disorders and conducts patch testing.

Elina Jerschow, MD
Dr. Elina Jerschow is earned her medical degree from the University of Vienna Medical School in Austria and went on to complete a research fellowship in immunological disorders of the skin at the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her internal medicine residency and allergy/immunology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. During her training, she studied the effects of environmental mercury on the immune system and conducted research on the role of the immune system in aging and obesity. Dr. Jerschow has a record in drug development and assessing drug-induced reactions as Associate Director in the Division of Clinical Immunology at Merck. She also served as attending physician at St. Vincent's Hospital. Dr. Jerschow has co-authored a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters.

Simon Spivack, MD

Dr. Simon Spivack is Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Montefiore and Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Genetics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He holds an MD from SUNY-Syracuse and an MPH from Harvard University. He clinically trained in internal medicine at University of Massachusetts, in pulmonary and critical care Medicine at University of Vermont, and practiced on faculty for 15 years at Albany Medical College, while pursuing novel approaches to lung disease detection in his laboratory at the New York State Department of Health. In addition to leading an active and talented group of clinician-faculty members in pulmonary medicine at Montefiore, he has pursued extensive NIH-funded research in detecting lung cancer risk, devising strategies for lung cancer prevention, and developing new noninvasive strategies for early detection of lung disease.
