The Sports Medicine physicians at Montefiore Medical Center have all participated in athletics extensively, and therefore, are able to provide invaluable insights and the most comprehensive care for patients who are experiencing discomfort due to injuries or illnesses. By applying the latest advances in technology and research, we approach nearly every patient’s situation with a minimally invasive solution; yet even when surgery is required, the vast majority of procedures are now accomplished endoscopically. This helps minimize rehabilitation therapy and the recovery time, so patients can sport their best game face again as soon as possible.
Each year approximately 15,000 patients of all ages come to us with conditions ranging from muscle strains to acute injuries to the cartilage of the joints. Not only do they seek our vast expertise in all aspects of sports medicine, but they also take great comfort in knowing we have an extremely caring staff that will diagnose with precision, discuss all treatment options, underscore prevention with the proper education, and execute the optimal plan for each individual.
All-Encompassing Expertise & Clinical Services
Our board-certified, fellowship-trained sports medicine orthopaedic surgeons - in addition to a team of pediatric surgeons, physical therapists, and radiologists - treat the full array of sports medicine conditions that threaten the function and comfort of the joints and bones. This encompasses any foot and ankle, knee, hip, or shoulder and/or upper extremity problem resulting from daily activities, work, exercise, sports, or performing arts. Some of the most common we treat include:
Dedication to Research
A crucial element of our mission at Sports Medicine is to initiate and participate in clinical and basic science studies in order to perpetuate advancements in the field. Currently we are conducting a clinical study in which we are reviewing the success of ligament repair procedures employed at Montefiore Medical Center so that we may cultivate further improvements and share our discoveries with other colleagues and facilities worldwide.
In our laboratory we are conducting studies of ACL graft procedures, rotator cuff repairs techniques and a number of other projects with the goal of decreasing the likelihood of failure through increased strength of the repairs.
