Surgery at Montefiore

Breast Cancer

Approximately 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the United States alone.

At the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Cancer Care, we are bringing our outstanding expertise to bear on this disease. At our new multi-disciplinary breast cancer clinic, we deliver the very best in education, prevention, diagnosis and treatment to patients from across the country.

Expert team to meet every patient need

Our center offers a full range of exceptional specialists, such as radiologists, surgeons (including plastic and reconstructive), radiation oncologists, psychosocial oncologists, medical oncologists, nurses and support staff. Working as an integrated team, we offer our patients the benefit of our expertise in one session, without the inconvenience of multiple appointments.

Our expert staff also provides emotional support to those with breast cancer. Our efforts include support groups and such innovations as laughter therapy. In addition, we are conducting research into the effectiveness of alternative and complementary therapies, including yoga.

The latest diagnostic technologies

Accurate, early diagnosis is crucial to the successful treatment of breast cancer. Montefiore uses the latest diagnostic approaches and technologies, ranging from traditional mammography and breast clinical exams to needle or surgical biopsy of tumors. Our diagnostic approach is key to providing our patients with an accurate understanding of their health and a sound treatment plan overseen by a team of dedicated professionals.

Developing & embracing new treatments

Once a diagnosis has been made, our team partners with our patients to educate and counsel them on their treatment options, which include a full range of the most cutting-edge treatments. For most breast cancer patients, those options include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and immunotherapy.

We understand that being diagnosed with breast cancer is very challenging and weighing the treatment options can be confusing. We work hard to provide our patients with the information and expert counsel they need to make the best decisions for their individual situation. Whenever possible, we pick localized, focused treatments that promise the best results possible with minimal disruption to our patients.

In addition, Montefiore excels at analyzing and assessing the risk of recurrence and its implications for our patients. We use the most advanced methods for accurately pinpointing risk and work closely with each patient to determine the best preventative and preemptive measures. Our esteemed cancer genetic service offers patients genetic counseling to help determine their risk for cancer and develop therapeutic options and prepare them for the future.
