Sarcoma and Connective Tissue Oncology

The Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care Melanoma/Sarcoma Program is one of only a few of its kind in the New York Metropolitan area providing an advanced multidisciplinary approach. Our exceptional teams provide medical and surgical management of all types of sarcomas, combining their expertise to deliver comprehensive care in a single clinical setting.

A Multidisciplinary Team of Experts

We bring together nationally recognized physicians from a wide array of disciplines, including radiology, pathology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, orthopaedic oncology, surgical oncology, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Together with our nurses and trained professionals, we treat all sarcomas including:

  • Angiosarcomas
  • Fibrosarcomas
  • Liposarcomas
  • Leiomyosarcomas
  • Rhabdomyosarcomas
  • Synovial Sarcomas
  • Osteosarcomas
  • Ewing's Sarcomas
  • Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors
  • Alveolar Soft Part Sarcomas
  • Epithelioid Sarcomas and Chondrosarcomas

We also treat melanoma, the most aggressive and dangerous of the skin tumors.

Our sarcoma includes David S. Geller, MD, one of the nation's few orthopaedic oncologists, who together with this multidisciplinary team of medical experts works to provide patients with the most effective, individualized treatment plan possible, while nurturing them throughout their fight with cancer.

Weekly Collaboration by the Treatment Team

Our clinical care environment fosters communication and coordination among the many team members, allowing for customized courses of treatment to be delivered in an efficient and timely manner. Montefiore's multidisciplinary tumor board meets weekly to review the progress of each patient and to adjust the course of treatment as necessary.

Treatments for sarcomas include: surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation and, typically, a combination of these modalities yields the greatest chance of success.

Technologically Advanced Facilities

Patients of Montefiore's Sarcoma and Soft Tissue Oncology Program have access to the most technologically advanced facilities available. From a state-of-the-art infusion center, to a new radiation oncology facility that offers the most innovative and comprehensive array of radiation therapy services available in the New York metropolitan region, to new, modern pediatric operating rooms, Montefiore is on the leading edge of sarcoma treatment.
