The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Montefiore
A committee of the National Institutes of Health has said that acupuncture may be effective for treating certain conditions such as addiction withdrawal, pain, nausea and some other health problems. Though not proven, acupuncture may also be utilized to treat many other disorders such as anxiety or depression. Acupuncture therapy administered by the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center is performed on an outpatient basis.
This therapy is an ancient form of Chinese medicine based on the belief that energy flows throughout your body, and by improving this flow you may enhance your health. Acupuncturists focus on an energy called chi, which they believe flows through a complex network of pathways in the body. Thin needles are inserted into precise locations in the body called acupoints in order to unblock or improve the flow of chi.
The acupuncturists in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine specialize in treatment of pain, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.
