Message From Our President
Dear Montefiore Colleagues and Alumni:
As the new president of the Montefiore Staff and Alumni Association, I would like to welcome you to our web site and share my thoughts and plans for the coming year.
Our fall programming will begin with the dedication of the portraits of Drs. Abraham S. Buchberg and Hideo Nagashima, two beloved physicians who served Montefiore Medical Center with great distinction. It will be held on Wednesday, October 11 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Montefiore Food Pavilion. Members of the Buchberg and Nagashima families will be there as well as their numerous colleagues and friends. Mark your calendars now to join us for this very special event. And, if you haven’t done so already, there is still time to contribute to the Memorial Portrait Fund, which will entitle you to a listing in the printed program. Please see our spring newsletter or call the Staff and Alumni Office at (718) 920-5260 for details.
House Staff Career Night, under the guidance of Paul R. Weiss, MD, will be offered for the 13th consecutive year on Wednesday evening, November 8 in the Cherkasky Auditorium. It will include speakers on job search strategies, legal issues, insurance coverage and financial planning. Attendees will be given an opportunity to informally talk to speakers during a buffet dinner in the Food Pavilion following the program. I encourage our attending physicians to participate and also ask that you bring your house officers.
The Association’s annual Dinner Dance and Awards Night is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2007, so, please save the date! Ballots to nominate our distinguished honorees have been mailed to all active (i.e., dues-paying members of the Association) and the selection committee will meet early in September to choose the honorees. Please check the Staff and Alumni Newsletter and this web site for updates.
Our education committee is fully engrossed in the planning of our biennial symposium, The Cutting Edge of Medicine…. scheduled for Thursday, May 10, 2007, in the Cherkasky Auditorium. This superb CME course will cover fascinating topics such as by speakers who are at the forefront of their specialties. As always, we offer reduced admission to current association members.
Finally, I would like to ask, indeed implore you, to join your Association for 2006/2007. It is only through your annual dues and contributions that we are able to offer these exciting programs and additional services, such as loans to members in need, scholarships to AECOM graduates and support for our house officers through Career Night and other programs. Please support your organization by responding quickly and affirmatively to our fall membership campaign or enhance your support by becoming a Life Member.
Wishing you a happy, healthy and enjoyable summer and a productive year,
Cordially,
Lewis P. Singer, MD
President
