In addition, a variety of clinical and management continuing education courses are available to clinical and management staff, with contact hours awarded by an approved contact hour provider.
Management Orientation Program
The Management Orientation Program is a competency-based program that develops core management skills in staff with leadership potential. Based on a novice-to-expert theoretical framework, our program is appropriate for the individual with any level of experience. All new Administrative Nurse Managers (ANMs) and other managers are required to participate in our Management Orientation Program.
The program is organized around five key managerial competency areas:
- Communication
- Fiscal management
- Information management
- Leadership
- Professional development
Each area has a list of required competencies, which each trainee must demonstrate. The program also includes relevant information about Montefiore, such as its organizational structure, Montefiore's Center of Excellence model, professional nursing practice and our regulatory agency requirements.
Participants receive access to many learning resources, including:
- Individual coaching
- Key documents, such as policies and procedures
- Manual and self-learning modules
- Preceptors
- Videos
Administrative leadership constantly evaluates our nurses' educational needs. To meet these needs, we offer continuing education programs throughout the year, including workshops for registered professional nurses on enhancing communication, problem-solving and delegating effectively. Management development needs are met through forums and learning circuits that address management issues and target the development of specific management and leadership skills.
Our team also offers a summer Clinical Assistance Program to nursing students, providing them with invaluable clinical experience, preceptorship with a professional nurse and a professional development series to advance clinical knowledge.
