Care Centers of Excellence

Surgical Services

For Montefiore's Surgical Services Care Center, the new millennium holds the promise of exciting new technologies in the liver tumor, kidney and liver transplant, bariatric and minimally invasive surgery programs.

An onsite surgical nursing education program offers continuing education credits and supports the development of clinical expertise in Montefiore's numerous surgical specialties.

Involving highly skilled pre-, intra-, and post-operative nurses in the latest clinical procedures helps advance the care of all surgical patients to new levels of excellence across the continuum.

Lubin Rehabilitation Center at Weiler Hospital
RNs, nurses aides, a case manager and support staff provide care to patients who require acute rehabilitation following surgery, CVA, (cerebrovascular accident), physical limitations such as knee or open heart surgery, or who have been referred from other hospitals.

This collaborative service integrates nursing care with physical, occupational and speech therapy. Patient assessment based on individual comprehensive care plans includes the involvement of the family or significant caregiver. Nurses also help educate patients to restore maximum independent function because we believe that "patients lead the way to the quality of their life."

Medical Care Center

Montefiore offers a variety of medical specialty services including General Medicine, Family Medicine, Oncology, Gerontology, Dialysis, HIV/AIDS and Critical Care. Nurses are recognized as pivotal members of an interdisciplinary team that manages the care of a culturally diverse and clinically complex patient population.

Montefiore's Hospice and Palliative Care Programs advocate for patients and families during the transition from the aggressive treatment phase to the supportive, end-of-life phase.

Our nursing professionals continually strive to reach the highest levels of personal performance, teamwork and mutual respect. High quality, seamlessly coordinated care is delivered across the continuum.

Women's and Children Care Center

At Montefiore, nursing incorporates the full spectrum of care for women at every stage of their lives, from obstetrics and gynecology, including gynecologic oncology, through perimenopause.

Pediatric nursing addresses the diverse needs, both culturally and with respect to health care, of children ranging from infants through adolescents.

The Children's Hospital at Montefiore is a unique state-of-the-art facility for the new millennium. We seek nursing professionals who recognize the importance of forming partnerships with families when caring for children. We also emphasize patient education to promote wellness to women and families.

Heart Center

The Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center has a team of highly skilled cardiovascular nurses who are dedicated to "Excellence of Practice". Cardiovascular nurses' expertise includes understanding of the most current developments in cardiovascular intervention, electrophysiology studies, coronary care, telemetry services and cardiothoracic surgery. Nurses also work in our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories.

Heart Center nurses' clinical expertise is augmented by an active clinical research program. Research nurses participate in cutting-edge clinical trials including TIMI, PRISM, and AVID, among others. As of July 2000, specially trained nurses will care for patients undergoing heart transplantation.

At the Heart Center, the delivery of patient care encompasses a holistic, collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach.

Clinical Support

Emergency Services
Emergency Services at Montefiore's Moses division treat approximately 80,000 patients annually, while the Weiler/Einstein division annual census is 37,000. Moses is a Level ll 911 certified center; an application for 911 status is underway for the Weiler/Einstein Division. Approximately 200 RNs, LPNs, nurses' aides and technicians work at Montefiore Emergency Departments.

Montefiore nurses provide high level emergent care that is aimed at exceeding our patient and family expectations. They serve as patient advocates and provide patient education to those discharged home from emergency services.

Sean, Physician Assistant

Department of Surgery
Moses Division Hospital

Montefiore excels at using the most current evidenced based medicine to care for patients. For physician assistants like me, that means the opportunity to learn hands-on from specialists who are experts in their field. It’s one of the best parts of working at a world-renowned academic medical center over a small community hospital. [more]
