Research and Resident Lectures
Ten weeks are set aside for elective rotations, which afford the resident time for pursuing research interests, for focused study, and to enhance one’s skill in subspecialty areas. Research is important in our training program. Residents are required to participate in at least one research project, either clinical or laboratory based, and either independently pursued or in conjunction with a staff member.
When the resident assumes major responsibility for a manuscript, the resident is the first author. Residents are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation at major meetings. The department has resources to produce powerpoint presentations and support for manuscript preparation. Funding for travel is evaluated on a case by case basis.
Each resident is also required to prepare and present a formal lecture during the daily conference sessions. Faculty assistance and departmental support is provided for these conferences.
