Teaching Conferences

Several teaching conferences are held daily at the main hospital, one from 8:00 to 9:00 AM and two successive conferences from 12:30 to 1:15 and from 1:15 to 2:00 PM.  At Weiler, interesting case conferences occur at noon on a weekly basis.

The conferences balance the teaching experience with a mixture of didactic lectures and unknown case presentations, which provide the residents experience in being called upon to interpret and discuss cases with help from the faculty in attendance. Case discussion stimulates debate and learning, as the residents learn to construct a differential diagnosis and to choose additional imaging procedures which may help to narrow the diagnostic possibilities.

All sections of the department participate in these conference assignments. Grand round presentations by Visiting Professors occurs monthly on both campuses, and there is a weekly lecture in radiologic physics for all residents.

Other Facilities and Training
The department also has a large up-to-date Radiology Library and computer-based Learning Centers to review video-discs and CD-ROM material from the ACR and other collections. Each resident attends the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology 6 week course in radiologic-pathologic correlation in Washington, D.C. during the third year of training. Funding for tuition and rent is provided. Each resident is also funded to attend a national meeting of their choice during the fourth year.
