Residency
The resident training program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center enjoys a regional and national reputation for excellence.
The main hospital (Henry & Lucy Moses Division) on the West Campus has 745 beds. The Jack D. Weiler Hospital on the East Campus, which has 431 beds, is adjacent to the Medical School. A convenient shuttle bus provides transportation between the two campuses, which are separated by only 4.6 miles, but it is not necessary to shuttle between hospitals during the workday, as conferences are held on both campuses.
Montefiore, with over 50,000 admissions annually, serves as the major health provider for the 1.2 million residents of the Bronx and is a tertiary care center for patients from all parts of the New York metropolitan region. The Department of Radiology, which provides the service for medical imaging in this large medical center, is an excellent foundation for graduate radiology education.
The residents’ education is further broadened by the insight they gain into the daily rigors of private practice at two departmental outpatient facilities on the West Campus and one outpatient facility on the East Campus. State-of-the-art 1.5T MRI, helical CT, angiographic, mammographic, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine facilities are available on both campuses.
Goals of the Program
The goals of the residency program are to:
-
Train the residents to perform and interpret all diagnostic and therapeutic imaging examinations;
-
Perform therapeutic interventions;
-
Direct the imaging work-up in a timely, cost-effective manner;
-
To maintain competence through continued study of current medical literature and quality improvement feedback.
The short term goal for the residents is to become board certified in Diagnostic Radiology.
