Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology is oriented first and foremost to serving both patients and referring physicians by providing timely and accurate interpretations of imaging studies.  The department offers the full gamut of imaging services at nine facilities, including two hospital departments (Moses and Weiler). Equipment is state of the art, and includes 64 row detector CT machines and 3 Tesla MRI units.  All types of diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided interventions are also available.

All images obtained in the department are archived in a General Electric Centricity PACS with redundant storage at the medical center and in Yonkers.  The PACS is integrated with the radiology information system, allowing both images and interpretations to be viewed throughout the medical center on computer workstations and in physician offices outside the medical center provided there is broadband access.

The radiologists in the department are fully subspecialized and board certified.  Certificates of Added Qualifications are held by all eligible radiologists (vascular/interventional radiology, pediatric radiology and neuroradiology).  Interpretations of virtually all imaging studies are performed by the appropriate subspecialized radiologist.

Initiatives for the future include plans for cardiac imaging (plain film, CT, MRI) at a cardiovascular center to be opened at 1773 Eastchester Road in the next one and a half years or so.  Equipment replacement is ongoing on a regular basis, and within the next three years, virtually all the equipment in the department will have been upgraded or replaced.  All screening mammography will be performed on digital machines and read at centers on each campus where the mammographers are dedicated to breast imaging.
