Research

As the University Hospital and Academic Medical Center for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) and a NCI-designated clinical cancer center, we believe very strongly in using the power of research to improve technologies, therapies and, most importantly, patient outcomes. That is why our entire team of radiation oncologists and physicists, all faculty members at AECOM, are involved in a large array of studies.

Currently, research is being conducted in the following:

  • Advanced physics technology such as IG-IMRT, 4D targeting, PET CT and biological treatment planning
  • Advanced brachytherapy for lung, prostate and gynecologic cancers
  • Advanced imaging technologies in radiation oncology: PET CT and MR spectroscopy treatment planning
  • Radiation enhanced tumor vaccines
  • Radiation and hepatocellular transplantation
  • Genetics and tissue dynamics of radioprotectant agents
  • Breast cancer and women’s oncologic health
  • Angiogenesis, anti-angiogenesis and radiation
  • Quality of life and patterns of care
  • IMRT and IG-IMRT standardization and dose measurement
  • Target motion management and new technology development
  • Breast cancer irradiation
  • Inverse treatment planning
  • Health disparities

Sean, Physician Assistant

Department of Surgery
Moses Division Hospital

Montefiore excels at using the most current evidenced based medicine to care for patients. For physician assistants like me, that means the opportunity to learn hands-on from specialists who are experts in their field. It’s one of the best parts of working at a world-renowned academic medical center over a small community hospital. [more]
