North Division Geriatric Medicine Fellowship: Meet the Program Director
T. S. Dharmarajan, MD, FACP, AGSF, is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine of Montefiore Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Dharmarajan serves as the Clinical Director of the Division of Geriatrics of the North Division of Montefiore Medical Center and the Program Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program of the North Division. He was instrumental in planning, initiating and developing the program, and oversees all phases of patient care, teaching and research, as well as the training of fellows and the teaching of medical students, interns and residents. He is board certified in internal medicine, nephrology, geriatric medicine and quality assurance/utilization review. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American Geriatrics Society.
Currently a Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of the New York Medical College, Dr. Dharmarajan is the author of more than 150 publications (in peer- reviewed journals and chapters in textbooks) and 200 abstracts (scientific presentations) in state, national and international conferences. Dr. Dharmarajan co-edited with Dr. Robert Norman the textbook Clinical Geriatrics (CRC Press/Parthenon Publishing, 2003) and wrote more than a third of its chapters. More recently, as editor, he has initiated another work, a Textbook of Geriatric Gastroenterology (Springer). Fellows in the geriatric medicine program have the opportunity to publish and co-author manuscripts with him. Dr. Dharmarajan is also a speaker at numerous local, national and international society meetings and symposiums. He has been the recipient of numerous awards for teaching, research and leadership.
The Program Director receives strong support from a well recognized and superbly qualified faculty group, both in geriatric medicine and in disciplines relevant to geriatrics. The faculty is extremely committed to the roles of teaching and supervision of the fellows.
