Biography:
Dr. Fast has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1994. During his tenure, the Department has tripled its number of Attending staff as well as greatly expanded its services through Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Fast is a nationally and internationally acclaimed clinician, researcher, and educator who has contributed extensively to the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine. He is a co-author of the book Navigating the Adult Spine: Bridging Clinical Practice and Neuroradiology (Demos Medical Publishing, 2006), which discussed various spinal disorders and guidance on neuroradiologic findings. Dr. Fast also holds an ambulatory suspension and rehabilitation apparatus patent from 2008.

Known for being an enthusiastic and dynamic leader, Dr. Fast’s contributions to the field have been recognized by several prestigious organizations. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Clinician Award by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and of the Radiological Society of North America Award for Excellence in Design. An active educator, Dr. Fast continues to train residents several times a week, including session on spine and general kinesiology, and serves as a research mentor to residents.

Prior to joining Montefiore, Dr. Fast served as Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical of New York from 1989 to 1994, and as Associate Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow, New York from 1984 to 1989. Dr. Fast practiced medicine overseas; from 1982 to 1984 he was the Chief of the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Tel Aviv Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) in Tel Aviv, Israel. Dr. Fast earned his medical degree at Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem and then completed his residency in rehabilitation medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
