Montefiore Multidisciplinary Pain Program

Chronic pain affects 42 to 50 million Americans, according to the American Pain Foundation. Pain can be due to a wide variety of causes including injury, surgery, and disorders such as arthritis, shingles, fibromyalgia, and neuropathy. Interventional pain management often provides considerable benefit to patients with persistent pain rather than utilizing medications such as opioids.

The Montefiore Multidisciplinary Pain Program (MMPP) offers chronic pain management evaluation and treatment in a state-of-the-art facility. We strive to provide compassionate and multidisciplinary care to treat patients with many types of chronic pain including arthritis, back pain, coccydynia, headaches, post-incisional pain, and post-amputation pain.

State-of-the-Art Examination and Intervention Facilities

The goal of the MMPP is to use alternative treatment modalities in chronic pain patients to improve functionality and quality of life while reducing dependence on opioids. Our MMPP facility includes spacious exam rooms, advanced fluoroscopic and ultrasound imaging equipment, and interventional suites that host the newest radiofrequency ablation technology, which can reduce a nerve’s conduction of pain sensations. Using a multidisciplinary approach, physicians and nurse practitioners determine the type of pain (such as somatic or neuropathic), evaluate past and present pain-control treatments, and develop strategies to help each patient enjoy a better quality of life.

Our Team

Our team includes anesthesiologists and psychiatrists who regularly collaborate with each other and our clinical colleagues throughout Montefiore. As one of the most recognized academic pain practices and fellowship programs in the country, we understand that pain is a complex, often debilitating problem that can threaten to upend physical, mental and financial well-being. At the MMPP, our team uses patient-centered treatment to reduce pain, increase functionality and improve quality of life.
