Maureen Scanlan, RN, MSN
Lead Administrator Nurse and Director, Nursing Informatics/Decision Support

As Director of Nursing of Informatics/Decision Support, Maureen Scanlan, RN, MSN, is spearheading projects to incorporate new technology into the automation of Montefiore's practices. A graduate of the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a master's degree in nursing, she has been with Montefiore since 1992.

Other positions she previously held at Montefiore include: staff RN, assistant director of nursing, administrative nurse manager for the Heart Center, and clinical professor of rotations. She also served as an adjunct faculty member for the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Jeanne DeMarzo, RNC, MSN
Clinical Director for Medicine and Maternal Newborn Services

Jeanne DeMarzo began her nursing career at Montefiore in 1983 and has and extensive background in Maternal Newborn Services/Regional Perinatal Center and Medicine, Oncology and Rehabilitative Services.  She has a depth of experience in program, staff and policy development, patient care delivery/standards of practice, quality initiatives, patient satisfaction, regulatory preparation, finance, team building, coaching, mentoring, labor relations, negotiations, position descriptions, competency development and emergency management. 

 Ms. DeMarzo serves as lead on MMC's Skin Collaborative Iniititiative and has worked with the GNYHA Skin Care collaborative.  Additionally, she serves on the Weiler Patient Experience Committee and the following committees/teams:  TJC Regulatory Team, Provision of Care, Departmental QI Programs for NICU, OB and Medicine, Emergency Management, OB Safety/TEAMSTEPPS Initiative and MMCs Breast Feeding Initiative/DOH Grant Project, Patient Safety.  

Ms. DeMarzo received her Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in Nursing/Nursing Administration  from the College of New Rochelle where she serves on the Advisory Committee for the School of Nursing.  Professionally, she is a member of AONE , NYONE and NANN.

Justine Huffaker, RN, MSN, FNP
Director, Surgical, Center and Services, Patient Care

Justine Huffaker, RN, CAN, MS, FNP, joined Montefiore in 1984 and has demonstrated excellence in team building, strategic planning, operational planning, and financial and quality management during her 27 years with Montefiore. She leads the Service Recovery Team and chairs the nurse executive leadership work group.

Ms. Huffaker also helped develop a recruitment plan to fill nursing positions and a communications strategy to foster leadership among nurses. Previously, Ms. Huffaker worked as clinical director of nursing for Surgery, where she implemented Grand Rounds for clinical areas, recruited and trained five additional administrative nurse managers, coordinated development of policies and procedures for the liver transplant program.

She also led the Ambulatory Satisfaction Committee, and implemented the Preoperative Joint Education Program for elective orthopedic patients. She received her nursing degree and a master's degree as a family nurse practitioner at Pace University.
Jaccel Kouns, RN, MS, NE-BC
Director, Emergency Services

Jaccel Kouns, RN, MS, NE-BC, earned her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in healthcare management at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY.

Prior to becoming Director of Patient Logistics, she held the following positions: administrative nurse manager for the critical care unit and telemetry units, interim administrator for the moses noninvasive lab, cardiology research coordinator and staff RN for the Medicine and Emergency Departments.

She has participated in various clinical cardiology research projects and is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executive and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).

Joan O'Brien, RN, MSN
Director of Nursing, Wakefield Campus

Joan O'Brien, RN, MSN, has served as the clinical director of nursing for the award-winning Heart Center for nearly 10 years. Previously, she held the position of clinical coordinator for CIS/EHIT, administrative nurse for Klau 5 and hemodialysis and nursing services for the AIDS Center. She is a graduate of Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing with special interests in critical care, HIV and informatics.
