Why did Montefiore Medical Center (Montefiore) acquire Our Lady of Mercy (OLM)?
Montefiore acquired essentially all of the assets of Our Lady of Mercy in order to preserve the stability of healthcare services and enhance the provision of high quality, compassionate care to the two million residents of the Bronx and nearby Westchester. This preserves a
location for the delivery of healthcare services that the Bronx community has relied on for many years.
Has the name changed?
OLM is now the North Division of Montefiore Medical Center.
What changes will I notice at the North Division?
The most important thing you will notice is that there are no interruptions in service. Montefiore will continue to provide all of our patients with the highest quality healthcare and vital services. You will notice new signage and other Montefiore materials to reflect the facility's new identity.
Will I need to change doctors?
In the majority of cases, patients will not need to change doctors.
Will the new organization take my insurance?
Montefiore accepts all major insurers.
Will the North Division continue to offer the same services?
You will have access to an even greater number of services in many more locations throughout the Bronx and nearby Westchester.
What if I need my medical records?
Patients may call the medical records department at the North Division at 718-920-8894 for assistance.
Will there be any religious affiliation?
Montefiore is a nondenominational organization that accepts all faiths and belief systems. A Catholic priest will continue to be available to patients and families.
What will happen to the religious adornments?
To prepare for their facility's acquisition by Montefiore, OLM management has been working with representatives of the Archdiocese of New York to appropriately transfer all property of the Catholic church in the medical center to Catholic parishes in the Bronx. This includes statues, crosses and religious pictures.
What does this mean for me as a patient?
Patients and the community will benefit from access to an even broader range of expertise throughout the Montefiore organization, in many more locations. Montefiore is creating an even stronger organization to provide our patients and the communities we serve with continued access to high quality, compassionate healthcare and vital services.
