New York City, NY (May 30, 2008) - The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) has been ranked one of the top children's hospitals in the nation by the prestigious U.S. News & World Report 2008 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals. The CHAM was ranked 28th out of 143 hospitals nationwide in its first year of eligibility.
The rankings are based on a methodology that weighs a three-part blend of reputation, outcomes and care-related measures such as nursing, advanced technology, and credentialing.
"It is an honor for The Children's Hospital at Montefiore to be ranked among the nation's premier providers of specialized medical care and services for children and adolescents," said Steven M. Safyer, MD, president and CEO, Montefiore. "In the six years since we opened the Children's Hospital, it already has become a hospital of choice for patients and families from around the world seeking excellence and innovation in specialty care."

In explaining the rankings, the magazine's editors said, "very sick children need very special care, and the best places for them are pediatric facilities with a deep pool of expertise."

Thus, the Children's Hospital can offer our patients access to the highest quality care and services available anywhere," said Philip O. Ozuah, MD, Physician-in-Chief of the Children's Hospital and chairman, Department of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The one word that I would use to describe Montefiore Nurses is 'innovative.' They're constantly changing and constantly growing and Montefiore finds new ways to make things easier for the nurses. They embrace change and that is vital for us and the institution.
