Bronx, NY (June 28, 2005) -- Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) celebrated the opening of a new facility June 24, 2005 for Project H.E.A.L., a program that provides women ages 18 and older with free HIV testing, supportive counseling and HIV prevention education in a supportive and nurturing environment. Shown at the opening ceremony -- a part of the “Bronx Week” festivities -- were (from left): Rafael Salaberrios, president of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation; Elaine Brennan, senior vice president for operations, MMC; Jorge Rodriguez, associate director of the MMC AIDS Center; Selma Torres, manager of MMC Community Based Initiatives; Elizabeth Ruffin, volunteer/outreach coordinator, Project BRAVO; Dr. Barry Zingman, medical director of the MMC AIDS Center; and Gail Malis de los Santos, health program administrator for women’s services of the N.Y. State Department of Health. Mr. Salaberrios read a proclamation from Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr., marking the opening of the new facilities, located at 3058 Bainbridge Avenue.
