New York City, NY (March 28, 2005) -- The Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) a major national fundraising organization dedicated to helping sick children, has donated a grant of $235,000 for pediatric services to Montefiore Medical Center. The money will be split equally between the medical center’s Department of Pediatrics, for medical programs, and The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM), to be used for Child and Family Services such as the Susan Pincus Family Learning Place—a community resources center for health information, and the Child Life Program.
The donation, presented by CMN Regional Executive Director William Tawpash, was accepted by Dr. Peter Semczuk, vice president for Women’s and Children’s Services at Montefiore.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, Children’s Miracle Network is dedicated to helping children by raising funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America. The funds are raised through a number of events, the largest being the “Children’s Miracle Network Celebration,” an annual telethon. Donations are also generated through the sale of the familiar “Miracle Balloons” sold by banks and other corporations. To date, over $2.2 billion has been raised for CMN’s affiliated hospitals, much of it given a dollar or two at a time by caring individuals.
In acknowledging the donation, Dr. Semczuk thanked the Children’s Miracle Network for its “strong support of Montefiore’s ongoing Child Life Programs, that are so important to the health and well-being of the children we serve.” Mr. Tawpash said, “Children’s Miracle Network is proud to help Montefiore Medical Center and its world renowned Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and the Department of Pediatrics to provide critical health services to children in need.”
