Boys Doing Well Two Days After Separation Surgery

Carl and Clarence and Mother Arlene Are All Doing Well

New York City, New York  (August 6, 2004) – Two days after Filipino twins Carl and Clarence Aguirre underwent 17-hours of delicate neuro and plastic surgery resulting in their separation at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, both are healing and doing “really well”.

The brothers are resting in separate beds in their shared room and mother Arlene and grandmother Evelyn “are peeking in from time to time just to enjoy the sight of them doing so well,” said Dr. Robert Marion, the boys’ pediatrician for the last 11 months at CHAM.

“I’m very happy and excited to see them sleeping in separate beds,” said their mother Arlene.  “I can’t wait to see them facing each other, to see their reactions.”

“I thank everyone who is praying for the boys and e-mailing me their support and prayers,” she said.

The team of doctors, nurses and other specialists at CHAM caring for the boys is very pleased with the way the boys are recuperating.  “Knowing Carl and Clarence as we do, we want to keep them under some sedation to prevent them from moving around too much,” said Dr. Marion.

“Earlier today their sedation began to wear off slightly, and I saw Clarence making a few shakes with his favorite maraca, as Carl started wiggling around in his own bed across the room,” said Dr. Marion.  “At this point, the boys seem to be doing as well as any of the other craniofacial surgery patients we have here at CHAM.”

The boys will be kept under some sedation throughout the weekend to minimize their movement and discomfort.
