His four-year term begins July 1. Dr. Foreman is a 1957 graduate of the selective liberal arts college where he has served for nine years as a Trustee and as Chair of the board's Trusteeship Committee. A hospital and health systems chief executive for more than 30 years, Dr. Foreman was president of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD, and director of the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Baltimore before coming to Montefiore in 1986. Montefiore is the University Hospital and Academic Medical Center for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and one of the largest academic medical centers in the country.
Following graduation from Ursinus, Dr. Foreman received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine. He is a professor of medicine and professor of epidemiology and population health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.A past chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Dr. Foreman has served as a member of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. He is a member and past chairman of the Board of Governors of the Greater New York Hospital Association and the Board of Directors of the League of Voluntary Hospitals, and a past member of the board of trustees of the American Hospital Association and the Hospital Association of New York State. He is chairman of the board of the Biomedical Research Alliance of New York. He served as a member of the U.S. Prospective Payment Assessment Commission.

Montefiore is establishing new standards in radiation treatment for many cancers. For example, to treat lung cancer we use Image-Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IGRT), which allows unprecedented targeting of a lung tumor without harming surrounding tissue – even when the lungs move as the patient breathes.
