U.S. Department Of Justice Holds Anti-Terror Program For Montefiore Medical Center Emergency Medical

WHAT:
The U.S. Department of Justice will hold a Weapons of Mass Destruction Preparedness Program for Montefiore Medical Center’s emergency medical service professionals so that they can respond to “incidents of domestic terrorism involving chemical and biological agents and nuclear, radioactive and explosive devices.”

The anti-terror program will include the use of a $200,000 computer-controlled mannequin that can simulate a patient who has been exposed to various chemicals and can even respond to treatments, including the administration of medications.

Montefiore emergency medical service professionals (physicians, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians) will learn how to “properly perform patient triage, treatment, and transportation in the event of exposure to biological, nuclear (radiological), incendiary, chemical and explosive weapons.”

WHO:
National Emergency Response & Rescue Training Center (NERRTC), part of the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the Texas A&M University System, will conduct the course as part of the US Department of Justice – Office for Domestic Preparedness programs.
